On Indonesia's main island of Java, lies Jogjakarta, the country’s second most popular tourist destination after Bali. Jogja, as it is more affectionately known, is famous for the spectacular Ramayana ballet held at the Prambanan Temple, the awesome Borobudur Temple, famous shadow puppet plays and major designers and producers of fine Indonesian batik textiles. Enriched by ancient culture, Jogjakarta is home to the Royal Palace of the Sultan of Jogjakarta and will be the home of Interhash 2012.
WHEN?
- INTERHASH 2012 will be held from 24th to 27th May 2012 which is outside the tourism high season so Hashers will benefit from not being hit with high season surcharges on flights and accommodation.
SERVICES?
- Your accommodation choices are many, e.g. from simple, clean, smaller losman type rooms to 5 star luxury, and everything in between.
- Restaurants serve local and International cuisine and there is plentiful, readily available, icy cold beer (Bir Bintang).
- Getting around will be easy. Taxis are plentiful, but you must try a horse drawn cart, or even a becak (pronounced : bee [as in bumble]-check [as in "find true trail"]), which is a two seater bicycle peddled by a driver sitting behind you. Reminds us of the funny sign next to the horse drawn carriage service TRY OUR HORSE DRAWN CARRIAGES – GUARANTEED NO MISCARRIAGES. Alternatively one to two US Dollars will get you practically anywhere you want to go within the city.
- The venues are large, meaning a plentiful variety of tasty food served in a massive uncrowded dining area and large bar areas.
- Entertainment from a massive stage with video screens and incredible backdrops featuring the unique Borobudur and Prambanan Temples. Entertainment will include your Interhash acts, live music and a Down Down Competition.
- Well-oiled, hassle-free transport on buses with refreshments and plenty of ice to take you to and from amazing runs, which include, but are not limited to temples, runs through rice terraces, rainforests, rivers, caves and waterfalls, around lakes and a run on the slopes of the infamous, nearby volcano, Mount Merapi.
- There will be an Old Farts' Run around the old palace area of Magelang and a Ball Breaker run.
- The Pre and Post Lubes to Interhash 2012 will be held in neighbouring Jakarta, Bandung, Bali and Lombok plus a Full Moon Run.
- A Hash train run will replicate elements of Brown Eye's 1988 Java Hash Dash in reverse, from: Jakarta to Bandung via Puncak tea plantations, a train journey voted one of the most scenic in the world, that will also take you back on the train and on on to Jogja.
- A truly illuminating experience will be the Red Dress Run around the old colonial city of Magelang culminating in a massive party at a swish hotel on a riverbank complete with its own stage and party area to house the live band which will play after the Red Dress run.
- When you need a break from Interhashing you can choose from golf, white-water rafting, shopping and sightseeing.
